Update failed

Hello!

I was using a fairly old version of batocera (the first official with kodi 17) and finally did the update. The download was a success, I did the reboot but batocera doesn't boot anymore.

I get a black screen with only "batocera.linux" written. I did wait for a long time but it is stucked. I don't have SSH access anymore, or any samba shares.

What can I do ?

something wrong happened.
you can upgrade from any 5.x to 5.9.
just get the boot.tar.xz
https://batocera-linux.xorhub.com/upgrades/
and unzip it on the sdcard/usb from any computer to upgrade manually, and fix the firmare.

How can I help debugging the problem ?

I used a Xubuntu USB stick to manually update Batocera (installed on my HDD), it doesn't work.

In fact, it's like it's booting but the graphical interface does not. I'm getting "batocera.linux" text (big text because of a small screen resolution), then the batocera logo (blue fog), then "batocera.linux" again (small text, better screen resolution) and that's it. With CTRL + F2 I can see a boot log, and CTRL + F3 a login prompt. Maybe I can log into the computer and see what hapened, but I don't know where to look.

Tomorrow I'll try with an older boot.tar.xz. Maybe the easiest fix will be to reinstalled batocera entirely 😢

i guess it's X which doesn't launch.
can you check or send this file /var/log/Xorg.0.log ?

but I keep getting "login failed". SSH doesn't work on newest version (Permission denied)

I can't access the terminal, am I doing something wrong ?

I took a photo of the syslog (ctrl + alt + 3). I cannot send it tonight, but it is written :

I have a Xubuntu shell available where I see the Recalbox squashfs (but no log in /var). I'll try to rollback, remove my change on xinitrc, and retry

the root password is now linux.

or just create a fresh install on a usb key to confirm if that comes from the system or from the data.

I think Batocera doesn't work properly since you introduced general.videooutput setting.

In /recalbox/scripts/recalbox-config.sh there is a new command setoutput select only 1 screen mode. I was manually disabling the first mode (LVDS1) but the default behavior is to select only the first mode. I ended up with no mode at all.

I removed my custom .xinitrc
And set global.videooutput=VGA1 in /recalbox/share/system/recalbox.conf.

Problem solved!
