Batocera v33 goes black and silent after the starting logo is shown after bootup

I installed Batocera v33 (https://updates.batocera.org/torrents/batocera-x86_64-33-20220203.torrent) on an old desktop (Lenovo ThinkCenter - Pentium Dual Core 160GB - GPU is integrated in the motherboard).

It apparently starts as I can see the first screen with the Batocera logo after the boot up, then I can see the version and date below and the music plays. It lasts for a few seconds then the music stops and the screen goes black.

This desktop used to run Ubuntu without any issues.

I can find the Batocera pc on my network using another pc (Windows 10). I mapped the Batocera share drive on my Windows PC and was able to transfer BIOS files, ROM files, etc via network from my Windows PC to the the Batocera desktop. So I know the system is running.

Could anyone tell me how to solve the no video and no sound issue?

I have Batocera (v33) flashed on a USB and the same problem happens when this PC boot from the USB.

I would need a solution that can be handled from my Windows PC somehow as the PC with Batocera monitor is black and as good as dead.

What is the excat model number of the CPU and/or the model name/number of the Lenovo ThinkCenter?

And did you already try an older version of batocera?

The tag in front of the machine says Model 6087-CE1.

Although I cannot find model 6087-CE1 in the list from the link above, the one that has the specs closest to mine is ThinkCentre® M57e Small (6305): M57e 6305-B1U 2×3 Pentium E2200 2.20 1MB Dual 1GB (I upgraded to 2GB RAM) 160GB2 DVD GMA

I have tried 3 Batocera versions: V33 & V31 (I had downloaded it some time ago) and I also tried 64bit PC with Nvidia legacy drivers (pre-GTX 750 Ti) (https://mirrors.o2switch.fr/batocera/x86_64/nvidia-legacy/33/batocera-x86_64-33-20220210.img.gz)

They all give the same results: it boots, I see the start Batocera image, then it moves to the image with date below and music plays, then it flips to the initial start Batocera image and immediately goes blank and mute.

I installed v33 on a Lenovo ThinkCentre M58p Eco Ultra Small and it works perfectly.

The problem is on the Lenovo ThinkCentre M57e Small (Model 6087-CE1). I have 2 of them and both machines give the same problem.

The Batocera v33 I flashed in the HD has a different theme than the v33 I have on the USB (I tried changing the theme just in case). Same result booting from HD or USB.

Should I try an ever older version? Could you tell me where to find it?

Hurray! v5.23 starts but the screen is messed up at the native 1920×1080 resolution.

I could not find where to change the resolution to 1680×1050.

I entered Kodi and changed resolution from 1920×1080 to 1680×1050 and it solved the problem on Kodi. When I closed Kodi and got back to Batocera the screen continues messed up (horizontally striped with parts more to the left and parts more to the right), making it hard even to read the menus.

I tried every menu option o 5.23 and it seems changing resolution is just not there.

If you have a spare graphics card laying around, you might want to try it out with that. If you go with an nvidia card, make sure the batocera-boot.conf has the # removed on the line that mentions using nvidia drivers. The file is located in the root of the Batocera partition.

Problem solved.

V33, v31, v30 do not work on this machine but version 5.23 works great after I changed the monitor to a newer one and got the 1920×1080 to work perfectly. I did try to change batocera-boot.conf removing the # on the line that mentions using nvidia drivers but I reversed it back to the original as it worked just the same. My issue was my monitor.

Batocera worked well with the USB, so I flashed Batocera into the HD directly (cleaned up the Linux I had installed in there), copied BIOS files (v32) to the BIOS folder and copied a load of ROMs.

I now have an arcade station that apparently works well. Lots of testing (playing) now to be done.
