Thanks Atari for confirming that second part. I figured that out by trial and error, but wasn’t exactly sure if that was the “official” way to do it. For anyone else reading this thread, I’ll tell you what I’ve learned since posting this. First off, it appears that that, at least for the Rec Room Masters controller, and probably any controller with dedicated function buttons, you probably shouldn’t put it in “Mode 2” as the wiki says. One thing I did find out the hard way was, if you put it in Mode 2, you will probably lose the configuration if you put it back in Mode 1, and you will have to re-install it, or else it won’t be detected as Keyboard by Batocera when you configure a controller. If that happens, here are the instructions get back to a base configuration if anyone needs them:
- Install the WinIPAC Software (note the warnings about pre-2016 HW)
- Connect Controller
- Put controller in Mode 1: Push and hold Start button and then hold the first Player 1 button for >10 sec
- Open the mainipacconfig.ipc default file.
- Important: Commit the changes by going to:
- File -> Force Board Reconfigure
After doing that, it will be seen by Batocera as keyboard again.
Now, to the mystery that I still can’t figure out. I went through and configured the controller again and, sure enough, the dedicated buttons worked as expected (Coin, Menu, Exit, etc). I figured I had everything solved so I just went on to configure my additional 8bitdo bluetooth controller, shut everything down and installed it back in my cabinet. Started it back up and boom, the dedicated buttons stopped working again. So, I’m not sure if it was the reboot or the configuration of the bluetooth controller or something else that caused they to start working. If anyone has any ideas why that might happen, let me know and if I figure it out, I’ll post here again.
