As for weaker SBCs like RPi2 (and also RPi3 if not overclocked), the performance of harder to emulate systems like PSX, N64 (and even SNES on titles like SMW2 Yoshi’s Island) has unfortunately gotten a little bit worse since v5.27.2.
The exact causes for this are not so easy to identify and can probably also not be rectified so easily. There are some things that might play a role (updates of emulators e.g. where the accuracy of the emulation has improved, but unfortunately at the expense of a bit more performance).
Settings like Threaded Video turned ON or decreasing the TV-Mode (resolution) from 1080p to 720p for example can increase the performance. But in my tests with certain games (like Bloody Roar 2 on PSX) i still notice very few and minor framedrops/audio dropouts in v29 or above compared to 5.27.2 and below.
Maybe there are more tweaks and setting-changes which can increase performance a bit more, but i’m not that deep into all the different emulator-setting possibilities. The help of someone with knowledge and/or passion to test and find out, if and how performance can be increased for weaker SBCs would be appreciated.
Nevertheless, i would be happy to have current versions for my RPi2 and i would like to test them too ☺
