Compile Batocera 34 dev with patched NVIDIA driver 340.108

Hi,

I am trying to compile Batcoera 34 dev with NVIDIA driver 340.108. It’s for older NVIDIA GPUs that are even older than Batocera (with legacy NVIDIA driver) can support.

I found a patch file released here: https://www.if-not-true-then-false.com/2020/inttf-nvidia-patcher/

The patch supports kernel 5.17 just recently. Last month, it only supported up to 5.16.

1. I created “NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-340.108-patched-kernel-5.17.run” as instructed. It’s done.

2. I compiled vanilla Batocera-x86_64 using Docker container in Ubuntu. It’s done.

3. I put the patched driver in “dl/batocera-nvidia-driver” where NVIDIA 510.60.02 driver was downloaded to.

4. I modified “batocera-nvidia-driver.mk” and “batocera-nvidia-driver.hash” from 510.60.02 to 340.108. Then I started to compile and got the following error.

I can’t find a solution. Please help. Thanks.

At last, Batocera with NVIDIA 340.108 driver can be compiled and installed. Thanks the developers.

Right now, I am doing the compiling, haven’t tried it on a real machine. Users needing NVIDIA 340.108 driver should check the latest official 37 beta image.

I found it’s not necessary to do the patching manually.

Just download the patch file and put it in dir “package/batocera/gpu/batocera-nvidia-driver/” and the toolchain will do the patch job.

eric4gth can you tell me if it works on older stable versions? is yours 32 or 64 bit?

eric4gth can help a newbie? can you elaborate on how you managed to activate the legacy 340.xx drivers? was it in the compilation or in the batocera after it was installed?

I am also trying to compile Batcoera 34 dev with NVIDIA driver 340.108 but I am facing the same problem as yours. I tried to search for it online on google search but can’t find it anywhere. Instead I found my assignment solution with the help of this https://edubirdie.net/blog/is-edubirdie-legal-or-cheating website but that is another story. My main purpose is to comment here to get an answer from anyone over here.

Hi, just came across this thread when I tried to find a work around to use batocera in my external hdd, using my laptop with nvidia geforce 105m (340xx nvidia driver). I found a working patch that support kernel 5.18, even the latest 6.0 kernel (https://github.com/MeowIce/nvidia-legacy/tree/340.108). I wonder if this thread has any improvement in some way ?

So, today i’ve managed to boot to the batocera.plus by selecting the “nvidia-driver=false” (tried using 340 (also auto, 470 and 390) for my geforce G 105m, but these option keeps me at the blank screen at boot).

edit the “MENU SHIFTKEY” to “MENU HIDDEN” (to show the batocera’s boot option (normal or verbose)) in boot/syslinyx/syslinux.cfg

edit the boot entry (press tab) of the verbose boot option and add “nomodeset” at the end of the boot entries. and it booted successfully with all the function such as network, audio, etc.

from the batocera’s xterm i use the “lspci” command and it listed my vga under geforce g 98m (105m). But batocera’s system information didn’t show my vga, only “OpenGL 4.5…”

been looking for some way to get to know if batocera knew/read/recognize my geforce g 105m at its system to be able to use it properly. for now i’m gonna test play some game that require a vga for the game’s performance if everything went well or not.

gonna give some update just in case if some people are facing the same problem like me now or in the future.

batocera.plus is a fork of batocera. if you need support for this, please ask the devs of batocera.plus and go to their forum/discord

You should wait for official beta image, so that you can get official support or report issue to the dev team.

No need to enable driver manually. Batocera can detect GPU and load the proper driver. Don’t touch “#nvidia-driver=” or “#nvidia-prime=” in batocera-boot.conf unless auto-detection fails. Uncomment “#nvidia-prime=true” resulted in NVIDIA driver failed to load in my case.
