Can't install to local hard drive

I’m having trouble installing to my laptop’s C drive.
The first attempt seemed to be going well until the download reached 34%.
I’ve tried restarting it, but I now get an error and it refers to me the system logs.

I’ve installed Putty and I can get into the linux prompt, but from there I’m struggling - not sure where the appropriate log file is held, and how to view it nicely.

I suspect the problem is disk size, but not being able to view the USB stick in Windows means I can’t tell how much is available - it’s a 16GB model and only has Batocera on it (5GB?)
(The laptop hard drive is 60GB and just has a bare Win10 installation on it, which I’m happy to blow away)

So…
How do I view the correct log?
What should my Batocera Storage be set to? I’ve tried Internal / Any External / Share

The download bar freezing is a visual bug, it still works in the background.
I’d recommend using the terminal commands in the meantime as there’s no issues there.
And finally, installing Batocera from Batocera is not recommended anyway. If you’re genuinely having issues with it, go through the process of disconnecting your intended drive from the machine and flash to it directly from your main computer using Balena Etcher.
