rasperypi 4, no music in psx games, kills music everywhere

When I start a PSX game then no music plays, these roms have music when played in retroarch on my pc. A good example is Mortal Kombat Trilogy, no music but all sound effects still work.

I’m using Rasperry Pi 4 Model B 4gb.

Which file format do your PSX games have?

joinski In the case of Mortal Kombat Trilogy its split into Cue and multiple bin formatted like:
Mortal Kombat Trilogy (USA) (v1.1).cue

Mortal Kombat Trilogy (USA) (v1.1) (Track 01).bin

Mortal Kombat Trilogy (USA) (v1.1) (Track 02).bin

there are 30 of the bin files.

I’m wondering if there are two separate issues since I now notice this game is the only one where the music never works but the sound effects do. The other issue seems to be the sound cutting out completely at random and sometimes coming back. The complete silence issue isn’t tied just to psx like I thought it was since it just happened in mame mortal kombat.

try to find this game in a version with only one bin + cue file or in .pbp or .chd

Use CHDMAN to merge into .CHD format.

There is still the real problem where the system sound just mutes for ages randomly. This is across every game.

Which version of batocera? Which emulator/core do you use? What do you mean with “system sound”?

joinski Batocera Is version 33. This is across everything, (list of emulators below). I can be playing any game on any system and the sound cuts out randomly and may or may not come back randomly. By system sound I mean its not just the emulator, the music and sound effects from the batocera menus are gone as well

Had the same issue with another PSX game (Toy Story 2). Converting to .chd should resolve it. See here . Worked for me anyway. Good luck!

When this happens the hdmi info bar thing appears at the top of my TV (I have a Sony Bravia android TV). I forced it to appear for a screenshot there by swapping hdmi channels. I did wonder if it was my hdmi cable but I have tried 4 different cables and all have the same problem. I never had this issue with any other device (including an old retropi)

sounds more like a hardware issue for me.

could you test on another tv, with another hdmi-cable and another OS for your pi4? just to rule every possible cause out.

Also worth checking if you’re using the correct audio encoding on your TV. PCM is generally the way to go.
