ESC as Hotkey for Gamepad

Hi Guys!
I have 2 arcade controllers that I soldered to old USB Gamepads. I was using Windows on that arcade, and because EmulationStation for windows worked better exiting with esc (It was the only way at the moment), I bought an old keyboard and soldered the ESC key to a button (Actually it's the "s" key that I remapped).
Is there any way that I can set that button up to be the hotkey for my Player 1 USB Gamepad?
The menu doesn't allow it, but I don't know if I can force it on the configuration file.
