Has anyone been able to get an old I-PAC to work?

I have an old I-PAC (I don’t even think it is an I-PAC2) that I got back in 2008. I’m trying to get it to work in Batocera and having a hard time. I followed this instructions here DIY Arcade Controls and got it to somewhat work. The Start/Select only work on player 2 and the buttons seem to work inconsistently.

Should I just bite the bullet and buy a new I-PAC2 ?

Is there a way to put it into “keyboard mode”? Are there any firmware updates you could install onto it? It would be a shame to just through out that hardware.

I bought it back in 2008 and everything I have read says you can only update the models that are 2015 and newer.
There is a keyboard passthrough port which has a PS2 connector. I’m honestly not sure what that does.
Oh and I noticed that if I push a bunch of buttons at the same time I will get a popup on the screen saying the device disconnected.
