Can't get to terminal on batocera 5.10

Installed batocera 5.10 on my odroid c2 and generally works great but when I try and press ctrl+alt+2 to get to the terminal it show the command line for just a second then switches back to emulation station immediately.

Are there some additional keystrokes that I should press to stay in the command line?

I'm trying to kick off mame from the command line to figure out why my rom's aren't loading, maybe there is a better way to get debug output from mame though.

Nevermind figured it out , just like recalbox.... you have to hit f4 first then in the waiting screen while its closing emulation station press alt + f2. If you just press ctrl+alt+f2 does the juggle act which is frustrating.
