Ok cool, but i dont get this bit?

Unzip the contents of /userdata/system/upgrade/boot.tar.xz to /boot/

I cant unzip it as my pc just freezes, and i dont quite get the path?

You are using a windows machine with the drive connected, on which you flashed batocera on, right?
If you use WinRAR or 7zip it should be possible to just right-click drag and drop on the downloaded boot.tar.xz-file to the boot-partition of the drive, where you installed/flashed batocera on and then select “extract here”.
You can replace everything (but you should backup the batocera-boot.conf file before, if you have made changes to it (the wifi-password (if you used wifi on batocera) is saved into this file for example)).

I guess you are double-clicking on the boot.tar.xz file? This is normal then, that it takes a while until WinRAR (or 7Zip) opens this file. It is the same for me (takes up to 20 seconds, even though i have a powerful machine with intel core i7-4790k and ssd). I don’t know why it is like that.

Jay Those aren’t instructions (lol). It’s just explaining what Batocera itself is doing when you update. In fact, I should probably just remove that from the wiki to avoid confusion.

The instructions are in the section immediately above the one you quoted:
"To upgrade/downgrade manually from a downloaded boot.tar.xz file:

Download the boot.tar.xz file of the version you want. The official ones are available at https://mirrors.o2switch.fr/batocera/ (for older versions, navigate to your architecture and go to /stable/last/archives/). Here’s a list of architectures and links to their builds.
Backup your boot configuration files (batocera-boot.conf and config.txt) from the Batocera machine (if you have edited them and require the edits to boot properly) to a safe location.
Unzip the boot.tar.xz file (it’s just like a .zip, you can use 7-zip on Windows) to get the boot.tar file.
Unzip the boot.tar file into the root of your Batocera drive’s boot partition (this is the default partition you see when inserting the drive into Windows) and overwrite the existing files. You may have to assign a drive letter under Windows Disk Management to see it in the file explorer.
Restore your boot configuration files if you wish to do so."

No i have batocera installed on a cabinet upstairs, but the wifi keeps dropping out so having to do it manually, im bringing the drive down to my pc copying the file across and then rebooting upstairs, but it does not seem to see the update file, if i try to extract it it just does nothing?

Think i know what im doing wrong, im copying it to the second drive with the roms on not the flash drive.

sorted, i was defiantly doing it wrong lol, at v35.

All working fine apart from the dragonrise issue in mame.

Ok ive just done this again for v36 and its still saying v35 in the menu.
