PSX/PS2 issues

Hello,

First time batocera user and I’m loving it! Some problems have been going on with PSX/PS2 emulation though.
Running with Intel NUC7JYH, celeron j4005 and 8gb RAM, Batocera v35, running on external SSD.

I’ve downloaded heaps of BIOS’s and I can get things to run with some minor issues:

PS2 will not launch at all through the GUI, but If I run it through the config menu it works fine. It runs PCSX2 and it doesn’t look bad, but I can’t run it without exiting.

PSX works through the GUI, but to be honest it does look absolutely horrific. Works when I put in “auto”, Duckstation refuses to work both in and out of the GUI.

Now I understand this is a bit vague, but I have tried some of the settings recommended here in the forum through searching similar posts… and some don’t function at all and flat out deny launching, while some do not produce any difference. I’m pretty new to this, so if there are any …let’s say “general things” that would improve the looks of PSX, or some tip that would make it possible to launch ps2 games through the GUI, I’d appreciate it. With the hardware that I have I understand it will never look absolutely pristine but….

PS. Haven’t tried MAME through Batocera but with some other systems, it was a traumatic experience 😀 Is it particularly difficult?

PPS. I’m sorry if the information given is not detailed enough, I’ll gladly provide more but I’m not sure what is relevant and what is not

j4005 is a very weak cpu. PCSX2 needs a beefy processor. Ensure you have put the bios correctly. You can try running the few titles with which are less cpu intensive.

I’ve been playing Kingdom hearts and ps2-era Final Fantasy with it and it runs fine. As I understand these games are not very cpu intensive.

The problem is I have to go launch it through the file manager every time with these games.

ruho79 Have you put the games in the /userdata/roms/ps2 folder ? they should be in the .iso, .chd format.

Try updating the games list, Manually select emulator for PSX and PS2 in the ES. I have observed that libretro-swanstation (psx) and stanalone PCSX2 (ps2) works best.

The games are in the right place and I’ve updated the lists. I’ve also tried putting the settings from the pscx2 standalone as similar as possible but it doesn’t work.

Here is a walkthrough how to setup. Check if everything is setup as per wiki.

If you still have problem try doing a factory reset/reinstalling batocera v35.

I understand this is an old and probably irrelevant issue but I thought I’d update with some information if it’s helpful at all.

I got a better powered NUC6i5SYH some time ago and everything works fine, launches everything as it’s supposed to do. Worked with v35, v36 and now with v37beta.
