Best way of configuring controllers per core?

What’s the best way for me to achieve this?

I have 2 PS3 controllers, paired with Batocera. I want these to be permanent controller 1 and 2.

Batocera is configured to suspend when idle. Upon resume, I need to reconnect the PS3 controllers using the PS button. All this works fine.

In addition to the 2 PS3 controllers, I also have 2 USB arcade sticks. The USB sticks are permanently connected to Batocera. They are configured at controller 3 and 4.

I want this configuration to be default for all libre cores, except MAME. For MAME, I want USB arcade sticks to be controller 1 and 2, and the wireless PS3 controllers to be 3 and 4.

My questions are:

1- what is the best way to do this?

2- once done, will Batocera/MAME “remember” the controllers since the PS3 controllers disconnect upon sleep?

You can define the port order of the controllers that you want in ES. ES will remember and reapply this order when they are reconnected, so no worries in that regard.

To make the exception for MAME, you’ll probably want to disable the configgen’s mapping of the units entirely and rely solely on MAME for this. You’ll need to use a custom mame.ini, which if you’ve been using MAME for a while already you should be already familiar with how to use. In Batocera, the global mame.ini is located at /userdata/bios/mame.ini. Further questions about how it’s used, refer to MAME’s documentation. You’re digging your own grave if you’re intentionally ignoring Batocera’s configgen, though, but you do you.

Maybe it would be easier to just manually swap the controller ports over when going to play MAME.

How do you define the port order in ES?

Seems like every time I go to ES’s controller settings, my controllers are numbered differently depending on which is turned on or plugged in first.

rainkid It’s what it says on the tin. You adjust them in the menu, it remembers what they are.
