Random reboots on v35

Hello all,

I set up a batocera pi for my big brother for xmas. However he’s been experiencing random reboots as if the power cuts short and the device starts up again. This seems to mostly happen while in the ES menu rather than in game but I believe it’s happened during a game as well. It is installed on a 32gb SD card, the latest downloadable version on the site (v35 I believe? Downloaded on the 24th Dec).

Additionally, I am curious about something regarding Argon One. So I used an Argon One v1 case for his build, and changed the batocera.conf to ARGONONE. But when he selects shut down the device seems to still be on as he has to hold the power button down before he can power it back on again. Is this a known issue?

Usually this is caused by an insufficient power supply. If you aren’t already, use the official Raspberry Pi power supply. It’s the only one with known quality to not randomly cut out the power.

Phone chargers, even ones that specify a higher amperage/voltage, will still sometimes drop below operational voltage. The Pi is really sensitive to stuff like this, unlike a phone (with its own battery as a buffer) would be.

I am using the official charger… It came in the pi4 starter kit box.
I guess I could see about plugging it directly in the wall rather than a power strip.

kane1985 Possibly, but it’s not likely. Even a low-grade power strip would still deliver enough amperage to the power supply before it gets converted (though it may be dangerous if the strip is doing that!)

You might want to turn on the performance HUD to see what’s going on, measure the temperatures and such.
