re-install from USB (chromebox efi)

Hi All,

So I had the wonderful Idea to install Batocera on my already manhandled chromebox which had windows 10 on it.

It is running MrChomebox efi boot bios installed and was working fine with windows, I downloaded Batocera to USB and this booted perfectly, I then went to ‘install to new disk’ and it hung at 11% for an hour which is when i decided to reset the unit and try again.

Now it boots from the internal drive into Batocera fine but as soon as I try to load anything (a game, file manager etc) it hangs.

Now the device will not boot from USB, I can select the USB to boot from in the homemade bios but it always boots form the internal drive as if I select ‘install to new disk’ it only lets me install back to the USB. If I swap to the Beta channel and start the update I get to 479MB out of 2584MB downloaded then it hangs.

Does anyone know a way to do a clean install to the SSD from within the Batocera menu? I can get to the ‘start’ menu but that’s about all. I also have access to the Efi Shell.

After 7 attempts over 3 days at installing from USB, taking the SSD out and installing direct to SSD, swapping the SSD, wondering if my i7 PC with 8Gb ram had major issues, reinstalling windows 10 (which worked fine) and still having issues when trying to do anything in Batocera, I accidentally pressed F2 instead of F1 in one of my tests and the clock appeared. Strange as I thought the whole system had frozen.

Is there a reason why when trying to use Batocera on a monitor without a sound output Batocera hangs without warning?

I have been using Kodi since it was XBMC and never run into an issue where no audio = full system hang.

Could a fix be put in where if no audio device is detected the audio side is closed or at least a warning on the install page that using monitors without sound will cause issues?

A lack of an audio device should not cause any crash, just muted audio. Batocera does support devices without audio outputs, such as the CM 4.

Thanks Atari,

I will hook it back up to one of the monitors and see if I can get a log file. I only asked as I found out about the audio issue from another user with the same problem.
All is running sweet now but as soon as I plug it into my pc monitor (or my second monitor) it hangs when attempting to load a game, press f1, or do an install. Also the intro video doesn’t load, just the version number at the bottom.
