Sound problems on my PC Gaming

Hi,

I just got Batocera 35v and did my first install on my PC (i7 5820k, x99A, 16go DDR4, RTX 2080). My connection for sound, S/PDIF Optical digital audio output to my amp. Batocera is installed on a WD external 4to drive.

With this beautiful configuration I have the impression of having slowdowns or in any case a feeling can be simply hatched sound or sound lag. On my first tests for example with Mame 2003 and the game 1942j (non-margined Mame 2003 version) or with SNES-MSU1 where the sound is not complete (just the sound effects and no music) and very hached or lags…

I reseach where the problem comes from : hardware incompatibility? Driver problem, NVIDIA for example (I didn’t modify the conf file manually for my GPU, but in the system information openGL is in NVIDIA)? or a configuration problem, for example sound? or a reading speed problem on my hard drive (not SSD, speed: +110mb/s) USB 3.0 not fast enough?

You are probably having a mixture of problems.

For:

make sure that you have your ROMs set up correctly and pointing to the correct CD drive image. Missing music in disc-based media is usually an indication that one track was properly read but other tracks were not. This may also be causing the “hitches and lags”.

So you think that this sound problem does not come from the Hardware but from a sound configuration problem ?

for the SNES msu, I have already replaced the roms and I finally have the music… but the sound is not as good as the original roms… the sounds and music have the same rendering as on Mame…

Meanwhile I tested the PSP and despite my gaming config, I have slowdowns in the game (God of War) and similar problems to those mentioned for other emulators. Suddenly, I’m starting to think that there is a driver problem or hardware incompatibility? The RTX 2080 runs well with NVIDIA linux drivers and is well recognized?

Well, assumedly, you’ve already tried what you can on the hardware side. Otherwise, why make the post?

I’m not sure what you mean by this. Is this a subjective opinion on the composition (because after all, they are fan-made so not by the original producers) or do you mean qualitatively the bitrate sounds worse?

As a sanity check, when you are next experiencing the “sound hitching”, could you check btop or something similar to make sure your CPUs aren’t being maxxed out/overheating?
