SD card migration - please help

Hi. I really hope someone can help me as this problem is driving me potty. I run Batocera froman SD card in my SteamDeck. I have a 25gb one and got a 512gb to give me more space but no matter what I do, I cant get it to work.

Have tried:

Using Balena Etcher to copy and flash it across

Using Win32 disc app to write the image

Have removed the ## on auroresize=true, but thats not doing anything.

Windows shows it as still havign 256gb and Batocera info says: user disk pace 208gb of 226gb(92%) and system space 2.64gb of 5.99gb. (44%). Not sure what this 2nd figure means (as my card is only 512gb) but the first figure indicates the card is still showing ar 226gb.

I have tried to copy the Batocera data (so I can paste it to a fresh Batocera image) - but Windows says thatere’s 128tb on data to copy?!

Sorry - am getting quite frustrated over this so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Just flash Batocera onto the 512GB microSD card and boot from it.
The same way you did it before with the 256GB microSD card.
If you want to transfer all files from your 256GB installation to the new 512GB one, you could either use a PC with linux or use a Windows machine (but with Windows you have to boot your Steam Deck with the 256GB card first, then transfer all your files via Network from the Steam Deck to your Windows machine. Then boot the Steam Deck with the 512GB microSD and transfer all the files again via network from your Windows machine to the Steam Deck).

You could also transfer the files within Batocera’s built-in file manager. Plug in a USB-C hub into your Steam Deck and connect a Keyboard (+ mouse) and the 256GB microSD-Card via Card-Reader (USB).

Or if you clone the 256GB microSD-Card to your 512GB microSD and want to expand the storage afterwards, use a disk partitioning programm (i guess something like EaseUS Partition Master can do that).

Thanks for the help. Appreciate it. When i tried to flash a new instllation, and then transfer the files from the steamdeck to the pc, via network, it didn’t let me copy them across as the pc seems to think theres 128tb of data on there.

I havent tried doing it via the Batocera file manager yet though - that may be my next attempt.

When i cloned the card, no disk partitioning software I used allowed me to extend the partition for some reason

Are you using non-official rom image of batocera?
(Because it is strange that it is fixed at 256gb in the first flash)

It looks like you created a copy (256GB image) with Balena Etcher. I missed it.

There may be a problem with the original SD card.

mikakunin With Balena Etcher there’s a trim option in the settings, i unselected that. Was that the right thing to do?

Its the official one. I’ll try it again and check it. Just trying another way at the moment (via the steamdeck itself)

Also the original SD card appears to be in ext4 and the new one in fat32 - would that have an impact?

Finally got this working. Flashed it again, with the trim option unticked - then manuall copied accross share and boot folders with batocera - all good now. Thanks :)
